During a survey of a grounded Fully Loaded bulk carrier, we discovered a significant crack along the side shell. At the request of the Class surveyor and Our Naval Architect, we deployed a mini-ROV to inspect areas inside Forepeak tank that were unsafe for divers due to limited access and unstable structures.
The ROV allowed us to fully inspect the forepeak tank and the collision bulkhead. We found coal from Cargo Hold No. 1 had entered the forepeak tank through the damaged bulkhead.
This shows how technology helps ensure safety during inspections.
